AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli authorities have forced three Palestinian families in Occupied Al-Quds to demolish their own homes—two in Sur Baher, south of the city, and one in Wadi al-Joz, near the Old City.
Osama Dabash, one of the affected homeowners, revealed on Monday evening that his family had no choice but to demolish their home to avoid steep fines. Israeli authorities had ordered them to remove the structure within two weeks.
Dabash explained that he had lived in the house for more than 45 years. He was pressured into tearing down part of the home under claims that it lacked a construction permit. The demolition deeply impacted his family, which consists of 32 members.
In a similar case, the Al-Quds Municipality forced another Palestinian, Firas Abu Farha, a resident of Wadi al-Joz, to self-demolish his home. He lived there with his wife and five children, and the destruction has left them homeless.
This escalation is part of a wider effort by Israeli authorities to displace Palestinian families from Al-Quds , advancing a campaign to empty the city of its native population.
During the first quarter of 2025, Israeli authorities executed 91 demolition and land-clearing operations in Occupied Al-Quds . This included 26 cases where Palestinians were forced to demolish their own homes to avoid exorbitant fines.
Israeli forces also carried out 53 demolitions using heavy machinery and conducted 12 land-leveling operations on Palestinian-owned property and streets, citing lack of building permits. However, these permits remain nearly impossible for Palestinians to obtain due to restrictive Israeli policies.
The Palestinian Al-Quds Governorate reported 53 additional violations over the same period. These included 19 demolition orders, 31 instances of land confiscation, and three eviction notices.
Human rights organizations widely condemn these actions as part of a systematic policy of forced displacement and demographic alteration, favoring the expansion of Israeli settlements in East Al-Quds
